Cumberland County Busted Mugshots
A mugshot gets taken when someone is booked into jail. It lives in an arrest file. It is not a court file. Most Cumberland County bookings happen at the Detention Center, which the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office runs. The arrest side of a record can come from many hands: Fayetteville Police, the sheriff, town departments, state agencies, or military police. Once a person is in the jail, the county system is the best source for current custody.
The file grows as the case moves. A person may sit at a local station while paperwork is finished. Then comes the move to the detention center. There, staff handle medical screening, identity checks, warrant checks, photos, fingerprints, data entry, bail review, and a first court date. Keep one thing in mind. The active roster shows who is in custody right now. It is not the full story of a case.
Cumberland Booking Record Fields
Two systems, two different views. The county roster and Fayetteville's Police-to-Citizen portal do not display records the same way, and a public screen may show less than the agency's internal file holds. Read the labels the original agency uses. When both dates appear, keep the booking date and the arrest date apart. Also avoid merging a third-party copy with an official entry as though they were a single file.
| Field | What it can tell you |
|---|---|
| Legal name | The name used in the active-inmate or police record. Check other displayed identifiers before treating a common-name match as the same person. |
| Booking or inmate number | A jail-system identifier for the intake record. It is not a conviction number. |
| Arrest or booking date | The event date shown by that source. A publication date or intake date may differ. |
| Arresting agency | May identify FPD, CCSO, a town department, or another agency. The jail can hold people arrested by many agencies. |
| Charges as booked | The initial charges recorded at intake. Charge names and codes can change in court. |
| Bond | A release condition set through judicial action. Bond is not a finding of guilt. |
| Photo | The booking image when the public system has one. The county interface can show a no-photo placeholder. |
| Court date | A scheduled appearance or first-appearance detail that should be confirmed with the court. |
| Facility or custody status | Where the person is held at the time of the view. Classification and release status can change. |
Getting out is not the same as a case ending. Per the county's own release information, a person may leave after posting bond, by court order, after completing a sentence, by paying fines or costs, through an agency teletype, or by transfer. What happens on the roster? The entry often just disappears. That tells you nothing. Was the charge dismissed, pled down, tried, or still open? For those answers, the court file is the place to look. The roster tracks custody and nothing more.
Get a Booking Record or Photo
Need something current? Call the detention information desk first. For an older booking record or an actual booking photograph, go through the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office Records Management route. CCSO describes that unit as the office that collects, stores, and shares reports and supplemental information, while the Reports Center handles incident reports, crime statistics, and civil searches. The Reports Center's public incident search reaches back seven years, but that window says nothing about how long booking photos are kept.
- Write to CCSO Records Management, ATTN: Records Management, 131 Dick Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301, or call 910-677-5414 to confirm the current submission method.
- Identify the full name, approximate arrest or booking date, arresting agency, incident or OCA number if known, and whether you want the booking record, the photograph, or both.
- Ask the custodian to identify any restriction, redaction, court order, or other reason a requested image or record cannot be released.
- Keep the written request and response. No county-specific booking-photo fee, standard online photo form, or guaranteed turnaround was located in the reviewed sources, so confirm cost and delivery before relying on an estimate.
Records Management posts office hours of Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The office describes its records functions as staffed around the clock. The detention information lines are 910-672-5630 and 910-672-5622. Use those numbers for a fresh intake, a release question, or a roster delay. They won't produce formal copies. A written request should stay neutral. Avoid asking the office to state a court outcome it does not track.
Fayetteville has its own route. The city public-record office sits at 467 Hay Street, Fayetteville, NC 28301. Reach it at 910-433-1529. FPD materials also list 910-433-1329 for police records. Ask directly whether FPD or CCSO holds the image you want. Hope Mills Evidence & Records is at 5788 Rockfish Road. A $10 fee applies to in-person accident or incident reports, payable by cash or card, with questions at 910-425-4103, option 6. In Spring Lake, reports can be picked up at 300 Ruth Street. The town's request form sets a 15-business-day target for ten or fewer records, or up to 30 business days for larger or archived requests, subject to legal review. None of these local rules override protections on a photograph.
North Carolina Mugshot Law
North Carolina's public-records framework starts with G.S. 132-1. That statute covers documentary materials, photographs, and electronic data made or received by a public agency for public business, subject to other laws. G.S. 132-1.4 narrows the focus. It spells out public arrest details: time, date, location, the nature of the alleged violation, identifying information, and circumstances. Then G.S. 15A-502 governs photographing and fingerprinting after an arrest.
No enacted state law forces or forbids counties from posting booking photos online. Bills like House Bill 778, Senate Bill 104, and House Bill 446 were proposals or inactive measures. They never became statewide rules. CCSO's active roster is simply a local practice, showing a photo when one exists and a placeholder when the public result has none. Absence means little. Juvenile information, protected victim or witness material, sealed matters, and expunged cases should never be guessed at from a blank space.
The North Carolina Judicial Branch expunction guidance lays out how eligibility and waiting periods depend on the offense and the circumstances. Current forms sit on the Judicial Branch forms page. A court order can direct how government records are handled. It cannot force a republisher, a cached page, a social post, or a search result to vanish on its own. Start with the originating agency to fix an error. Then send legally relevant documentation to any republisher that accepts correction requests. Watch for intermediaries who claim payment will suppress public information. That is a warning sign, not a service. Stick with the court, the original custodian, and a documented process, and remember no request can erase every copy on the internet.
Find Cumberland County Busted Mugshots
Where do you start? That depends on where the person sits in the system. Someone booked minutes ago may still be at a local station and invisible online. County custody points to the CCSO active-inmate system first. Once released, a person can vanish from that live view even though the booking record still exists. A state sentence moves the file to NCDAC, while federal or immigration holds run through entirely different locators. Work the sources in this order:
- Open the official CCSO Active Inmate Lookup and search the required last name with an optional first name.
- If Fayetteville Police made the arrest, compare the official FPD Recent Arrests view. It is a city police record, not a complete county custody list.
- For a missing same-day result, allow for the intake process and call detention information. For a formal copy, ask CCSO or the arresting agency’s records office.
- Use the state DOC search only when the person is in state prison, probation, or parole records. Use BOP for federal custody and ICE for current immigration detention questions.
- Check the Cumberland court route for the case and disposition. A charge on a booking screen is not the final case result.
When you can't tell which agency holds the record, the CCSO contact directory earns its keep. Detention, records, fugitive, magistrate, public-information, and after-hours numbers each get their own listing. The aim is finding the original record custodian. A search result, on its own, never tells the whole story.
Where Cumberland Mugshots Appear
Start with official sources every time. News sites and commercial indexes can hand you a lead, but they copy stale images, blur agency lines, get dates wrong, and leave entries up long after release. Five county-level aggregators dominate the local web landscape: Busted Newspaper, Mugshots.com, Arrests.org, Mugshots.zone, and RecentlyBooked.com. RecentlyBooked's North Carolina index lists no Cumberland County page. So don't go hunting for one.
| Channel | Photo? | Official? | Use and custody state |
|---|---|---|---|
| CCSO active roster | Yes, when available; otherwise a placeholder | Yes | Current county detention custody, with intake and release lag possible. |
| FPD Recent Arrests | Available on some police results | Yes | Fayetteville police arrest view; not a countywide or disposition source. |
| CCSO Records Management | Request-dependent | Yes | Older county records or a specific photo request; no posted photo fee or promise found. |
| NCDAC offender search | May show a state identification photo | Yes | State prison, probation, and parole records, not county jail intake. |
| Cumberland court file | Not a booking-photo gallery | Yes | Case status, court dates, and disposition after booking. |
| Fayetteville Observer and WRAL | Story-dependent | No, news outlets | Selective county and city coverage, not a current roster. |
| Named third-party indexes | Often displayed by the site | No | Unofficial, selective, and possibly stale. Verify with the original agency and court. |
Naming those third-party sites maps the terrain. It doesn't vouch for their data. City tags can read Fayetteville, Hope Mills, Spring Lake, or other Cumberland communities, and none of that proves which agency supplied a thing. No aggregator stands in for CCSO, FPD, a municipal records office, or the court. Check the agency itself when accuracy matters.

Cumberland Busted Jail Roster
The CCSO Active Inmate Lookup lives on the sheriff's own domain. Type a last name. A first name is optional. Results arrive as a grid with a detail view behind it, and the mugshot field is part of the layout. When no image is public, a placeholder fills the gap. The roster's own notice calls the data a convenience: not every crime appears, and official sources still govern.
| Search control | What to do |
|---|---|
| Last name | Required. Enter the surname as the interface requests it. |
| First name | Optional. Add it to narrow a common-name result. |
| Search and reset | Submit the search, then use reset for a new name or a clean retry. |
| Result detail | Compare identifiers, charges, custody information, and whether an image or placeholder appears. |
- Open the sheriff’s landing page and wait for the embedded search to load.
- Enter a required last name and optional first name, then submit.
- Review the result detail, not only the name. Note the source label and the date you searched.
- If there is no photo, do not assume no photograph was taken. If there is no record, consider station processing, release, transfer, another agency, a protected record, or a technical mismatch.
Two things CCSO doesn't publish: a fixed refresh schedule and a post-release retention window. The detention page puts intake at roughly four to eight hours. The release page lists several departure reasons that can hit at any hour. So treat the roster as a live look at current custody with some lag, never a historical arrest archive. No official CCSO jail-information app exists. NC SAVAN and VINELink handle custody notifications, but neither serves as a public photo search.
Cumberland Recent Booking Feeds
No CCSO page goes by today's bookings, 24-hour arrests, 48-hour bookings, 72-hour bookings, or weekly blotter. The active roster comes closest. Yet it sheds people after release and can't reconstruct earlier bookings. For a same-day question, check CCSO, compare FPD P2C when Fayetteville made the arrest, and call detention information when timing matters.
FPD's Recent Arrests screen is the strongest municipal source of its kind. Fields can include an image, age, sex, race, height, and charges. Its own disclaimer calls the data convenient and not all-inclusive, subordinate to official records. No universal refresh minute or retention period is promised. Hope Mills and Spring Lake each have official records paths, though neither city offers a separate public arrest log or photo feed.
The aggregators sort differently. Arrests.org organizes by date, Mugshots.zone runs a rolling date-labeled stream, Busted Newspaper uses county and tag pages, and Mugshots.com goes alphabetical and by year. Treat these as secondary windows. A date there might mean arrest, booking, publication, or ingestion. None of them proves current custody or a court outcome.
How Long Does Intake Take?
CCSO's own detention description supplies the timing detail worth knowing. Local-station processing can run four hours or more before a person ever reaches the jail, and intake itself takes roughly four to eight more. Why so long? Intake covers medical and mental-health screening, identity processing, warrant checks, data entry, the booking photo, fingerprints, bail review, and a court date. That gap explains why an arrest and its roster entry rarely appear together.
Treat the estimate as operational guidance, not a promise. The source pages don't commit to refreshing the roster inside that window, and release or transfer can happen before you search again. For time-sensitive questions, use the roster, cross-check the arresting agency, and call the detention desk. Need a copy? Go through the written records route.
North Carolina DOC Photos
State custody is a different world from county custody. The North Carolina Department of Adult Correction Criminal Offender Searches page leads to the Offender Public Information search, which works by name or offender ID. NCDAC tracks state prisoners, probationers, and parolees, with historical records going back to 1972. Someone sitting in the Cumberland County Detention Center, though, will not show up there. Profiles can include a state identification photo when one is available, along with aliases, the OPUS number, age, race, gender, convictions, sentence details, admission date, status, location, transfers, custody classification, and review dates. A state photo is a different animal from the county booking image. Search CCSO for county custody, NCDAC for state custody or supervision, and the court for how a case ended.
Questions about a state record go to NCDAC at 214 W. Jones Street, Raleigh, NC 27603, 919-733-2126. The NC SAVAN FAQ walks through the state notification system and its VINELink connection, which sends confidential phone, text, email, or TTY alerts. It is not a public mugshot source.
Booked, Released, or Transferred?
A name can vanish from one system while the case is still very much alive. Someone booked in Cumberland County might be released, moved, or picked up elsewhere. Use the custody state below to pick the right next source, and keep the booking record separate from the court record. They answer different questions.
| Custody state | Best source | What the result means |
|---|---|---|
| Just arrested or in intake | Arresting agency, then CCSO | The event may be in station processing or jail intake before a public roster result appears. |
| In Cumberland County custody | CCSO active roster | The person may appear with booking information and a photo when available. The view is current, not historical. |
| Released or transferred | CCSO Records Management and court | The active entry may disappear. That does not show dismissal, acquittal, or conviction. |
| State prison, probation, or parole | NCDAC offender search | A state custody or supervision profile may exist, with a possible state identification photo. |
| Federal custody | BOP locator | The BOP search covers federal inmates and has no booking-photo feed. |
| Current immigration detention | ICE locator | The ICE system has its own identity requirements, timing limits, and no public photo. |
Cumberland Court Dates and Outcomes
Booking starts the process. The court record finishes it. CCSO's Court Appearances page notes that hearings can happen in the jail courtroom, the courthouse, or another appropriate courtroom, sometimes with no advance notice. For the county court route, the Cumberland County Judicial Branch page lays it out, and the state criminal calendar and case tools offer the next stop.
Was the charge continued or dismissed? Reduced, pleaded, tried, acquitted, or otherwise disposed of? The court file or the clerk's office answers that. The Cumberland Clerk sits at 117 Dick Street in Fayetteville. The phone number is 910-475-3000. The District Attorney, magistrate, and public defender each keep separate court-system contacts. A roster date can shift, and a release from jail can have several explanations.
Alerts Without a Jail App
Cumberland County has no CCSO jail app. The official channels stay simple. That means the county's online arrest roster plus the phone contacts the sheriff's office publishes. Fayetteville's P2C platform belongs to the city police. Crime Stoppers takes tips rather than tracking bookings.
NC SAVAN is the state's notification option. It works with VINELink to cover county jails and state custody across North Carolina. Registration is free, anonymous, and open around the clock at 877-627-2826. You pick a PIN and get calls about custody changes, usually between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., though critical alerts can come at any hour. Details can lag behind actual events.
Federal and Immigration Custody
Federal custody runs on a separate track from the county jail. The Federal Bureau of Prisons locator reaches back to inmates held from 1982 onward. Search by name or by a BOP register number in the usual five-digit, hyphen, three-digit pattern. It will tell you where someone is housed and when release is expected. No booking photo appears. A clean BOP result does not rule out custody elsewhere, since county, state, pretrial, USMS, and other systems all sit outside its reach.
Immigration detention has its own tool. The ICE Online Detainee Locator handles current immigration holds plus some recent CBP custody entries. Search with an A-number and country of birth, or with an exact name, country of birth, and date of birth. Detainees under 18 are left out. Delays and gaps are common, and no photographs appear. The Marshals Service offers no routine public lookup for prisoner histories or pictures. Cumberland budget papers do reference detention services tied to immigration and customs enforcement, though that paperwork is far from a working ICE roster.
Busted Mugshots by City
City pages here are built on the July 1, 2024 North Carolina OSBM municipal population estimates. They exist for navigation, plain and simple. Nobody is ranking towns by arrests or crime. A booking in any given city might come from city police, the CCSO, a state agency, military police, or some other department, while the physical custody itself flows through the county detention system.
- Fayetteville Busted Mugshots, population 211,756, with the FPD P2C Recent Arrests system and the county roster as complementary sources.
- Hope Mills Busted Mugshots, population 18,317, with no separate municipal arrest feed located and Evidence & Records as the records fallback.
- Spring Lake Busted Mugshots, population 11,659, with no dedicated public booking feed located and a published town request form.
